Notwithstanding any provision of any policy of health insurance, whenever the policy provides for payment or reimbursement for a service that is within the lawful scope of practice of a licensed optometrist, the insurer shall provide payment or reimbursement for the service, whether the service is performed by a physician or a licensed optometrist. Unless the policy provides otherwise, there shall be no reimbursement for ophthalmic materials, lenses, spectacles, eyeglasses or appurtenances thereto. [Formerly 743.703]
