Every person who shall discharge a firearm from a motor vehicle in a manner which creates a substantial risk of death or serious injury shall, upon conviction, be fined not less than five thousand dollars ($5,000) nor more than fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) or imprisoned for not less than ten (10) years nor more than twenty (20) years, or both.

Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 11-47-61
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Firearm: includes any machine gun, pistol, rifle, air rifle, air pistol, "blank gun" "BB gun" or other instrument from which steel or metal projectiles are propelled, or that may readily be converted to expel a projectile, except crossbows, recurve, compound, or longbows, and except instruments propelling projectiles that are designed or normally used for a primary purpose other than as a weapon.
