Rhode Island General Laws 15-8.1-113. Order adjudicating parentage
(a) In a proceeding under this chapter, the court shall issue a final order adjudicating whether a person alleged or claiming to be a parent is the parent of a child.
Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 15-8.1-113
- Birth: includes stillbirth and fetal death. See Rhode Island General Laws 15-8.1-102
- Child: means an individual of any age whose parentage may be determined pursuant to this chapter. See Rhode Island General Laws 15-8.1-102
- Parent: means an individual who has established parentage that meets the requirements of this chapter. See Rhode Island General Laws 15-8.1-102
- person: may be construed to extend to and include co-partnerships and bodies corporate and politic. See Rhode Island General Laws 43-3-6
(b) A final order under subsection (a) of this section, shall identify the child by name and date of birth.
(c) On request of a party and for good cause shown, the court may order that the name of the child be changed.
(d) If the final order under subsection (a) of this section, is at variance with the child’s birth certificate, the department of health, division of vital statistics, shall issue an amended birth certificate.
