Rhode Island General Laws 21-31-24. Drug disposal
(a) Notwithstanding any provisions of the general or public laws to the contrary, any city or town may authorize the use of its police department to display a container suitable for use as a receptacle for used, expired, or unwanted drugs or drug products. The receptacle shall only permit the deposit of items, and the contents shall be locked and secured. The container shall be accessible to the public and shall have posted clearly legible signage indicating that expired or unwanted drugs or drug products may be disposed of in the receptacle.

(b) The used, expired, or unwanted drugs or drug products disposed of under this section shall not include any controlled substance, as defined in § 21-28-2.08, except as permitted under federal law.
