The chief inspector shall conduct a final acceptance inspection on completion of the installation, modification, or alteration of a private residence elevator before it is placed in service. Upon completion and final acceptance inspection of a private residence elevator, the homeowner shall register the private residence elevator with the department of labor and training. Registration is to be made on a form furnished by the department of labor and training — division of occupational safety and a database of private residence elevators shall be maintained by the chief inspector.

- Chief inspector: means the existing position of chief elevator inspector as appointed by the director of labor and training. See Rhode Island General Laws 23-33-1
- Elevator: means a hoisting and lowering mechanism equipped with a car or platform which moves in guides in a substantially vertical direction. See Rhode Island General Laws 23-33-1
