Terms Used In South Carolina Code 18-1-120

  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
The party appealing shall be known as the appellant and the adverse party as the respondent. But the title of the action shall not be changed in consequence of the appeal.
