Terms Used In South Carolina Code 6-21-130
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- governing body: as used in this chapter shall be construed to mean, in the case of a county, the board of county commissioners or other like governing body thereof, in the case of a city or incorporated town, the board of commissioners, the mayor and council or other like governing body thereof and, in the case of a township, the board of county commissioners or other governing body of the county in which the township is located. In the event of the acquisition by purchase the governing body may obtain and exercise an option from the owner of the property for the purchase thereof and may enter into a contract for the purchase thereof. Any such purchase may be made upon such terms and conditions and in such manner as the governing body may deem proper. But the exercise of an option to purchase or the entry into a contract for such purchase shall in no event bind or obligate the municipality or create any debt, liability or claim except such as may be paid from the funds provided under the authority of this chapter.
