Terms Used In South Carolina Code 63-17-840
- Division: means the Child Support Enforcement Division of the State Department of Social Services. See South Carolina Code 63-17-720
- Obligee: means a person or agency to whom a duty of support is owed or a person or agency having commenced a proceeding for the establishment or enforcement of an alleged duty of support. See South Carolina Code 63-17-720
- Obligor: means a person owing a duty of support or against whom a proceeding for the establishment or enforcement of a duty to support is commenced. See South Carolina Code 63-17-720
- Payee: means a custodial parent on whose behalf child support payments are being collected or an agency or its designee in this or another state to which an assignment of rights to child support has been made. See South Carolina Code 63-17-720
In cases in which support is subject to an assignment or a requirement to pay through any state disbursement unit which may be established, the division or its designee may direct the obligor or the payor to change the payee to the appropriate government entity. The division shall provide written notification of this change to the obligor and the obligee not less than ten days before the effective date of the change.
