The auditorgeneral may investigate the affairs of agencies and their dealings, transactions, and relationships. He shall have the power to examine into the properties and records of agencies and to prescribe methods of accounting and the rendering of periodic reports in relation to projects undertaken by agencies, which accounts and reports shall not be inconsistent with any system of accounts or reports prescribed pursuant to any contract for federal financial assistance. Compliance with this chapter and the rules and regulations adopted by the auditorgeneral may be enforced by the attorney general by writ of mandamus or other appropriate proceedings.
