South Dakota Codified Laws 22-16-12. Classification of murder

Murder in the first degree is a Class A felony. Murder in the second degree is a Class B felony.

Under the South Dakota Laws, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:

Class	Prison	Fine
Class A felony	up to life	up to $50,000
Class B felony	up to life	up to $50,000
