A judgment in a petty offense case has the same effect as any other civil judgment and may be executed, levied on, and become a lien on the property of a defendant accordingly.
Terms Used In South Dakota Codified Laws 23-1A-21
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
- Petty offense: A federal misdemeanor punishable by six months or less in prison. Source: U.S. Courts
