The owner may request a hearing, pursuant to chapter 1-26, which must be granted and held within ten days of a removal order. Based upon the hearing, the Department of Health may issue a destroying or denaturing order. The owner may appeal to the circuit court within three days of the order.

- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
