When a trustee is appointed by a court or public officer as a trustee, the court or officer is the trustor. A court may otherwise establish or create a trust and may act as the trustor of a trust.

- Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
- Trustor: The person who makes or creates a trust. Also known as the grantor or settlor.
