Such petition must show the name of the municipality, the date of its incorporation, the fact that it contains a population of less than two hundred fifty persons, and that the petitioners are the owners of more than onehalf of the real property contained within its limits, in area, and of more than onehalf of such real property in assessed valuation, as shown by the last assessment thereof prior to the filing of such petition. Such petition shall be verified by the affidavit of two or more of the petitioners to the effect that the statements contained in it are true and be filed in the office of the clerk of the circuit court.
