- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
If a court wrongly grants a default decision imposing an obligation for child support from or against an eligible individual protected under the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act ( jurisdiction of Secretary of the Air Force; use by all Services” class=”unlinked-ref” datatype=”S” statecd=”US” title=”50″>50 U.S.C. § 501 et seq.), the court shall issue an order to the individual receiving funds that the funds shall be returned and reimbursed.
