- Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
- Age of majority: means eighteen (18) years of age or older. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Attachment: A procedure by which a person's property is seized to pay judgments levied by the court.
- Consortium: means the consortium for cooperative innovative education created under §. See Tennessee Code 49-15-102
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.

- Office of postsecondary coordination and alignment: means the office of postsecondary coordination and alignment in the division of career and technical education in the department of education. See Tennessee Code 49-15-102
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- Person: means an individual, corporation, partnership, business, trust, unincorporated organization, association or joint stock company. See Tennessee Code 28-3-201
- Person: includes a corporation, firm, company or association. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
- Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
- Restitution: The court-ordered payment of money by the defendant to the victim for damages caused by the criminal action.
- Statute of limitations: A law that sets the time within which parties must take action to enforce their rights.
- Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
- Substantial completion: means that degree of completion of a project, improvement, or a specified area or portion thereof (in accordance with the contract documents, as modified by any change orders agreed to by the parties) upon attainment of which the owner can use the same for the purpose for which it was intended. See Tennessee Code 28-3-201
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
