Terms Used In Michigan Laws 14.111

  • Litigation: A case, controversy, or lawsuit. Participants (plaintiffs and defendants) in lawsuits are called litigants.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
  • Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
     In all cases in which the state is a party or interested, in which the attorney general participates, whenever it becomes necessary to subpoena witnesses or to defray other necessary expenses of that litigation, the attorney general is hereby authorized to pay the amount that he or she considers necessary out of funds appropriated.
