- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Governmental entity: means any of the following:
(i) This state and its agencies, departments, commissions, courts, boards, councils, and statutorily created task forces. See Michigan Laws 333.26101Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit. state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
(1) An individual or entity, or the individual’s or entity’s legal representative, who alleges a violation of the individual’s or entity’s rights under section 28 of article I of the state constitution of 1963 or section 3 by a governmental entity may bring a civil action for injunctive relief, damages, or any other appropriate remedy, in the appropriate state or federal court.
(2) The attorney general may enforce section 3 through a civil action for injunctive relief, damages, or any other appropriate remedy.
(3) A court shall award reasonable costs and attorney fees to a plaintiff who prevails in an action brought under this section.
