An employee of the state judicial council serving in the district court in the thirty-sixth district who becomes an employee of the Detroit judicial council or the city of Detroit serving in the district court in the thirty-sixth district on October 1, 1996, shall remain a member of the state employees’ retirement system created by Act No. 240 of the Public Acts of 1943, being section 38.1 to 38.47 of the Michigan Compiled Laws. The employer of the employees described in this section shall submit the reports and contributions required under section 44a of the state employees retirement act, Act No. 240 of the Public Acts of 1943, being section 38.44a of the Michigan Compiled Laws.
