- Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
If an application is made to a judge under Article 11.08 or 11.09, the judge shall appoint a time when the judge will examine the cause of the applicant, and issue the writ returnable at that time, in a specified place in a county to which the writ is returnable.
