Terms Used In Texas Finance Code 14.202

  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Person: includes corporation, organization, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, association, and any other legal entity. See Texas Government Code 311.005
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • Written: includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures. See Texas Government Code 311.005

On receipt of a written complaint or other reasonable cause to believe that a person is violating a statute listed by § 14.201, the commissioner may:
(1) require the person to furnish information regarding a specific loan, retail transaction, or business practice to which the violation relates; and
(2) conduct an investigation to determine whether a violation exists.
