(a) In addition to other jurisdiction provided by law, the County Court of Edwards County has original concurrent jurisdiction with the justice courts in all civil and criminal matters in which the justice courts have jurisdiction under general law.
(b) The terms of the county court begin on the first Mondays in January, May, August, and November and continue until the Saturday before the Monday on which the next term begins. The commissioners court may change the court terms under § 26.002.

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Justice: when applied to a magistrate, means justice of the peace. See Texas Government Code 312.011
