(a) A member may apply for a service retirement annuity by filing a written application for retirement with the board of trustees.
(b) At any time before the retirement system makes the first annuity payment or the first annuity payment becomes due, a member may, by filing written notice with the board of trustees, revoke the member’s application for retirement or make, revoke, or change a selection of an optional service retirement annuity available as provided by § 824.204.

Terms Used In Texas Government Code 824.201

  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Written: includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures. See Texas Government Code 311.005

(c) Except as specifically provided by this subtitle, a retiree may not revoke a retirement nor make, revoke, or change a selection of an optional service retirement annuity.
