Texas Local Government Code 336.254 – Abolition of or Change in Ad Valorem Tax Rate
(a) The board by order may decrease or abolish the ad valorem tax rate or may call an election to increase, decrease, or abolish the ad valorem tax rate. In an election under this subsection and except as provided by Subsection (b), the board shall use the procedures for a tax election under Subchapter B.
(b) At the election, the ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the proposition: “The increase (decrease) in the ad valorem tax rate of _________ (name of district) to a rate up to ___________ (rate of tax) cents per $100 valuation of taxable property to be used for district purposes” or “The abolition of the district ad valorem tax.” The increase or decrease in the tax rate, or the abolition of the tax, is effective if it is approved by a majority of the votes cast.
