Terms Used In Texas Local Government Code 42.156
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Municipality: means a general-law municipality, home-rule municipality, or special-law municipality. See Texas Local Government Code 1.005
Instead of holding an election under § 42.153, the municipality may voluntarily release the area for which the election is to be held from the municipality’s extraterritorial jurisdiction before the date on which the election would have been held under § 42.153(a).
