Terms Used In Texas Natural Resources Code Chapter 85 > Subchapter C - Provisions Generally Applicable to the Conservation of Oil and Gas

  • Commission: means the Railroad Commission of Texas. See Texas Natural Resources Code 85.001
  • common source of supply: means a common reservoir. See Texas Natural Resources Code 85.001
  • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Oil: means crude petroleum oil, crude petroleum, and crude oil, and "gas" means natural gas. See Texas Natural Resources Code 85.001
  • Person: includes corporation, organization, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, association, and any other legal entity. See Texas Government Code 311.005
  • Pool: means an underground reservoir containing a connected accumulation of crude petroleum oil, or natural gas, or both. See Texas Natural Resources Code 85.001
  • Property: means real and personal property. See Texas Government Code 311.005
  • Rule: includes regulation. See Texas Government Code 311.005
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • sworn: includes affirm or affirmed. See Texas Government Code 312.011
  • Written: includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures. See Texas Government Code 311.005
