- most recent federal census: means the United States decennial census immediately preceding the action in question. See Texas Government Code 312.011
- Population: means the population shown by the most recent federal decennial census. See Texas Government Code 311.005
In this chapter, population of a municipality or area is determined by the most recent federal census unless there has been no federal census in the preceding five years, in which case the population is the latest population estimate of the appropriate metropolitan planning organization.
