Terms Used In Tennessee Code 8-50-104
- disabled: means the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than twelve (12) months. See Tennessee Code 8-34-101
- Service: means service as a general employee, a teacher, a state police officer, a wildlife officer, a firefighter, a police officer, a state judge, a county judge, an attorney general, a commissioner or a county official which is paid for by an employer, and also includes service for which a former member of the general assembly is entitled to under former §. See Tennessee Code 8-34-101
- State: means the state of Tennessee. See Tennessee Code 8-34-101
It is the policy of the state to give positive emphasis to the recruitment, evaluation, and employment of disabled persons in the public service. The department of human resources shall develop methods and programs to assist and encourage the departments, agencies and institutions of the state and the various political subdivisions of the state in carrying out the stated policy, and shall provide for appropriate study and review of the employment of disabled persons in the public service. Private employers in the state may in like manner develop policies for complying with § 8-50-103.
