- Commissioner: means the commissioner of health or the commissioner's designee. See Tennessee Code 63-30-102
- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.

- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Person: includes a corporation, firm, company or association. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Record: means information that is inscribed on a tangible medium or that is stored in an electronic or other medium and is retrievable in a perceivable form. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- reflexologist: means any person who engages in the practice of reflexology for compensation and who has completed a study of the principles of reflexology, anatomy and physiology generally included in a regular course of study of reflexology. See Tennessee Code 63-30-102
- Reflexology: means the application of specific pressures to reflex points in the hands and feet only. See Tennessee Code 63-30-102
- Registration: means satisfying the requirements for registration by the department of health. See Tennessee Code 63-30-102
- Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
