(1) The division shall provide a course of instruction in safe and responsible trapping, including instruction in:

Terms Used In Utah Code 23A-4-1006

  • Division: means the Division of Wildlife Resources. See Utah Code 23A-1-101
  • Land: includes :
         (18)(a) land;
         (18)(b) a tenement;
         (18)(c) a hereditament;
         (18)(d) a water right;
         (18)(e) a possessory right; and
         (18)(f) a claim. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Trapping: means taking protected wildlife with a trapping device. See Utah Code 23A-1-101
  • Wildlife: means :
         (61)(a) crustaceans, including brine shrimp and crayfish;
         (61)(b) mollusks; and
         (61)(c) vertebrate animals living in nature, except feral animals. See Utah Code 23A-1-101
     (1)(a) the use of trapping devices;
     (1)(b) trapping laws;
     (1)(c) trapping ethics;
     (1)(d) techniques in safely releasing nontarget animals;
     (1)(e) firearms safety;
     (1)(f) wildlife management;
     (1)(g) proper catch handling;
     (1)(h) trapper health and safety; and
     (1)(i) ethics relating to the avoidance of conflicts with other public land users and private landowners.

     (2)(a) A certified instructor may, on a voluntary basis, give instruction in the course of furharvester education, as established by the division.
     (2)(b) Upon the successful completion of the course, the division shall issue to the participant in the furharvester education course a certificate of completion in furharvester education.
