(1) If a medical examiner determines that the death of a person who is 12 years old or older at the time of death resulted from poisoning or overdose involving a controlled substance prescribed to the decedent, the medical examiner shall, within three business days after the day on which the medical examiner determines the cause of death, send a written report to the Division of Professional Licensing, created in Section 58-1-103 , that includes:

- Decedent: A deceased person.
- Medical examiner: means the state medical examiner appointed pursuant to Section
26B-8-202 or a deputy appointed by the medical examiner. See Utah Code 26B-8-201 - Person: means :(24)(a) an individual;(24)(b) an association;(24)(c) an institution;(24)(d) a corporation;(24)(e) a company;(24)(f) a trust;(24)(g) a limited liability company;(24)(h) a partnership;(24)(i) a political subdivision;(24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and(24)(k) any other organization or entity. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5(1)(a) the decedent’s name;(1)(b) each drug or other substance found in the decedent’s system that may have contributed to the poisoning or overdose, if known; and(1)(c) the name of each person the medical examiner has reason to believe may have prescribed a controlled substance described in Subsection (1)(b) to the decedent.
(2) This section does not create a new cause of action.
