(1) The purpose of this chapter is to provide a mechanism for covered employers to provide covered individuals with group health, dental, medical, disability, life insurance, medicare supplement, conversion coverage, cafeteria, flex plan, and other programs requested by the state, its political subdivisions, or educational institutions in the most efficient and economical manner.
Terms Used In Utah Code 49-20-105
- Covered individual: means an employee and the employee's dependents eligible for coverage under this chapter. See Utah Code 49-20-102
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
- Plan: means the Utah Governors' and Legislators' Retirement Plan created by Chapter 19, Utah Governors' and Legislators' Retirement Act, the New Public Employees' Tier II Defined Contribution Plan created by Chapter 22, Part 4, Tier II Defined Contribution Plan, the New Public Safety and Firefighter Tier II Defined Contribution Plan created by Chapter 23, Part 4, Tier II Defined Contribution Plan, or the defined contribution plans created under Section 49-11-801. - State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
(2) The benefits provided to a covered individual under this chapter do not constitute a continuing obligation of the state, its political subdivisions, or educational institutions.
