Terms Used In Utah Code 53F-2-527

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
     (1)(a) “Classroom teacher” means a teacher who:

          (1)(a)(i) is assigned by an LEA in a permanent teacher position filled by one teacher or two or more job-sharing teachers employed by an LEA;
          (1)(a)(ii) is licensed and paid on an LEA’s salary schedule;
          (1)(a)(iii) is employed for an entire contract period; and
          (1)(a)(iv) is primarily responsible to provide instruction or a combination of instructional and counseling services to students in public schools.
     (1)(b) “Teaching supplies and materials” means consumable and non-consumable items that are used for educational purposes by teachers in classroom activities that are approved by the LEA.
(2) For the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2024, the state board shall distribute money appropriated for teaching supplies and materials as follows:

     (2)(a) $500 to each classroom teacher position for pre-kindergarten special education and kindergarten through grade 6; and
     (2)(b) $250 to each classroom teacher position for grades 7 through 12.
