(1) Subject to Subsection (2), the commission shall authorize, before July 1, 2017, and, subject to funding, approve a program that authorizes a large-scale electric utility to investigate, analyze, and research clean coal technology.
Terms Used In Utah Code 54-20-104
- Clean coal technology: means a technology that may be researched, developed, or used for reducing emissions or the rate of emissions from a thermal electric generation plant that uses coal as a fuel source. See Utah Code 54-2-1
- Commission: means the Public Service Commission. See Utah Code 54-2-1
- Large-scale electric utility: means a public utility that provides retail electric service to more than 200,000 retail customers in the state. See Utah Code 54-2-1
(2) The commission may review the expenditures made by a large-scale electric utility for a program described in Subsection (1) in order to determine if the large-scale electric utility made the expenditures prudently in accordance with the purposes of the program.
