(1) The administrator may not sell a medal or decoration awarded for military service in the armed forces of the United States.

Terms Used In Utah Code 67-4a-705

  • Administrator: means the deputy state treasurer assigned by the state treasurer. See Utah Code 67-4a-102
  • Armed forces: means the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Owner: includes :
              (26)(b)(i) a depositor, for a deposit;
              (26)(b)(ii) a beneficiary, for a trust other than a deposit in trust;
              (26)(b)(iii) a creditor, claimant, or payee, for other property; and
              (26)(b)(iv) the lawful bearer of a record that may be used to obtain money, a reward, or a thing of value. See Utah Code 67-4a-102
  • United States: includes each state, district, and territory of the United States of America. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
(2) The administrator, with the consent of the respective organization under Subsection (2)(a), agency under Subsection (2)(b), or entity under Subsection (2)(c), may deliver a medal or decoration described in Subsection (1), to be held in custody for the owner, to:

     (2)(a) a military veterans organization qualified under 26 U.S.C. § 501(c)(19);
     (2)(b) the agency that awarded the medal or decoration; or
     (2)(c) a governmental entity.
(3) On delivery under Subsection (2), the administrator is not responsible for safekeeping the medal or decoration.
