Terms Used In Utah Code 72-7-110
- Department: means the Department of Transportation created in Section 72-1-201. See Utah Code 72-1-102
- Highway: means any public road, street, alley, lane, court, place, viaduct, tunnel, culvert, bridge, or structure laid out or erected for public use, or dedicated or abandoned to the public, or made public in an action for the partition of real property, including the entire area within the right-of-way. See Utah Code 72-1-102
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
(1)(a) The Utah Department of Transportation may erect memorial signs along state highways, honoring Utah Highway Patrol officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
(1)(b) The memorial signs shall:
(1)(b)(i) be located in the community of the fallen trooper that the memorial is intended to honor; and
(1)(b)(ii) correlate with, and where possible conform to, the sign requirements in the most recent edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways adopted under Section 41-6a-301 .
(2) Memorial signs erected in accordance with this section shall be funded by:
(2)(a) any voluntary contributions the department receives for the memorial signs;
(2)(b) funds appropriated by the Legislature to the department for memorial signs under this section; or
(2)(c) a combination of the funds available under Subsections (2)(a) and (b) .
