Utah Code 73-5a-501. State engineer to inspect dams

(1) The state engineer shall inspect each dam that in the state engineer’s opinion, if it failed:

Property: includes both real and personal property. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5

(1)(a) poses a threat to human life; or

(1)(b) could cause significant property damage.

(2) An inspection required by Subsection (1) shall occur:

(2)(a) at increments commensurate with the relative risk to life and property; and

(2)(b) not less than once every five years.

(3) The state engineer may inspect a dam that is not exempt from regulation by this chapter.
