- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Board: means the State Capitol Preservation Board created in Section
63C-9-201 . See Utah Code 63O-1-101 - Capitol hill: means the following, in Salt Lake City:(4)(a) the grounds, monuments, parking areas, buildings, structures, and other man-made and natural objects within the area bounded by 300 North Street, Columbus Street, 500 North Street, and East Capitol Boulevard;(4)(b) the White Community Memorial Chapel, including the grounds, monuments, parking areas, buildings, structures, and other man-made and natural objects on the property;(4)(c) the Council Hall Travel Information Center, including the grounds, monuments, parking areas, buildings, structures, and other man-made and natural objects on the property;(4)(d) the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Building and the Carriage House, including:(4)(d)(i) the grounds, monuments, parking areas, buildings, structures, and other man-made and natural objects on the property; and(4)(d)(ii) the other state-owned property within the area bounded by Columbus Street, North Main Street, and Apricot Avenue;(4)(e) the Central Plant, located to the southeast of the intersection of 500 North and Columbus Street;(4)(f) the state-owned property within the area bounded by Columbus Street, Wall Street, and 400 North Street; and(4)(g) the state-owned property within the area bounded by Columbus Street, West Capitol Street, and 500 North Street. - City: includes , depending on population, a metro township as defined in Section
10-3c-102 . See Utah Code 68-3-12.5- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- executive director: means the executive director appointed by the board under Section
63O-2-401 . See Utah Code 63O-2-101- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- House Building: means the west building on capitol hill that is located northwest of the State Capitol, southwest of the North Building, and west of the Senate Building. See Utah Code 63O-1-101
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Legislative area: means all areas, other than an area of joint control, that are specified under this chapter as being under the direction and control of the Legislature. See Utah Code 63O-1-101
- Person: means :
(24)(a) an individual;(24)(b) an association;(24)(c) an institution;(24)(d) a corporation;(24)(e) a company;(24)(f) a trust;(24)(g) a limited liability company;(24)(h) a partnership;(24)(i) a political subdivision;(24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and(24)(k) any other organization or entity. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5- Process: means a writ or summons issued in the course of a judicial proceeding. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Property: includes both real and personal property. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Senate Building: means the building on capitol hill that is located northeast of the State Capitol, southeast of the North Building, and east of the House Building. See Utah Code 63O-1-101
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- State Capitol: means the building dedicated as the Utah State Capitol in 1916. See Utah Code 63O-1-101
