Terms Used In Vermont Statutes Title 15 Sec. 1-112
- Child: means a minor or an adult son or daughter, by birth or adoption. See
- Domestic: when applied to a corporation, company, association, or copartnership shall mean organized under the laws of this State; "foreign" when so applied, shall mean organized under the laws of another state, government, or country. See
- following: when used by way of reference to a section of the law shall mean the next preceding or following section. See
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Minor: means a person who has not attained 18 years of age. See
§ 1-112. Family Division of the Superior Court jurisdiction
The Family Division of the Superior Court shall have jurisdiction to hear and dispose of issues pertaining to parental rights and responsibilities, parent-child contact and child support in accordance with the provisions of 15 Vt. Stat. Ann. chapter 11 under the following circumstances:
(1) If two unmarried persons, who have adopted a minor child, terminate their domestic relationship; or
(2) If two unmarried persons, one of whom has adopted a minor child of the other, terminate their domestic relationship. (Added 1995, No. 161 (Adj. Sess.), § 1; amended 2009, No. 154, § 238.)
