Terms Used In Vermont Statutes Title 19 Sec. 1110
- Agency: means the Agency of Transportation. See
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- highway: includes rights-of-way, bridges, drainage structures, signs, guardrails, areas to accommodate utilities authorized by law to locate within highway limits, areas used to mitigate the environmental impacts of highway construction, vegetation, scenic enhancements, and structures. See
- Person: includes a municipality or State agency. See
- Secretary: means the head of the Agency who shall be a member of the Governor's Cabinet responsible directly to the Governor for the administration of the Agency. See
- Selectboard: includes village trustees and city councils. See
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States may apply to the District of Columbia and any territory and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. See
- Town: includes incorporated villages and cities. See
§ 1110. Posting of highways
(a) If the use of a town highway is to be restricted, the selectboard shall post copies of the rules in at least two public places in the town. Posting signs provided by the Agency informing the traveler of the restriction shall be conspicuously placed at each end of the highway or portion of the highway. The Secretary shall be responsible for furnishing notice of any restricted use of State highways.
(b) A person who violates these rules shall be guilty of a traffic offense under 23 Vt. Stat. Ann. chapter 23, for which he or she shall be fined not more than $100.00, and shall be liable to the State or town in which the damage is done for all damages to the highway to be recovered in a civil action.
