Terms Used In Vermont Statutes Title 19 Sec. 17
- Agency: means the Agency of Transportation. See
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- highway: includes rights-of-way, bridges, drainage structures, signs, guardrails, areas to accommodate utilities authorized by law to locate within highway limits, areas used to mitigate the environmental impacts of highway construction, vegetation, scenic enhancements, and structures. See
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Person: includes a municipality or State agency. See
§ 17. Contracts; labor preference
A person, firm, or corporation awarded any contract for the construction, reconstruction, improvement, and repair of a highway under the jurisdiction of the Agency shall give preference to Vermont labor and to trucks owned in Vermont and operated by residents of Vermont on all contracts of construction, reconstruction, improvement, and repair, provided this action is not contrary to federal rules and regulations.
