Terms Used In Vermont Statutes Title 19 Sec. 28

  • Agency: means the Agency of Transportation. See
  • highway: includes rights-of-way, bridges, drainage structures, signs, guardrails, areas to accommodate utilities authorized by law to locate within highway limits, areas used to mitigate the environmental impacts of highway construction, vegetation, scenic enhancements, and structures. See
  • Selectboard: includes village trustees and city councils. See
  • Throughway: means a highway specially designated giving traffic traveling on the throughway the right of way at all intersections. See
  • Town: includes incorporated villages and cities. See

§ 28. Regulatory signs

Except as provided in 23 V.S.A. § 1074, the designation of a throughway shall not become effective as to regulation of traffic at any point in intersection with any highway until the Agency or the selectboard in a town, as the case may be, shall erect suitable regulatory signs or signals in accordance with the requirements of 23 V.S.A. § 1025. The Agency or the selectboard in a town, as the case may be, may designate any intersection under their respective jurisdictions as a “stop” intersection or a “yield right of way” intersection.
