Every locality shall by resolution or ordinance create a local planning commission in order to promote the orderly development of the locality and its environs. In accomplishing the objectives of § 15.2-2200 the local planning commissions shall serve primarily in an advisory capacity to the governing bodies.

Terms Used In Virginia Code 15.2-2210

  • Development: means a tract of land developed or to be developed as a unit under single ownership or unified control which is to be used for any business or industrial purpose or is to contain three or more residential dwelling units. See Virginia Code 15.2-2201
  • Local planning commission: means a municipal planning commission or a county planning commission. See Virginia Code 15.2-2201
  • Locality: means a county, city, or town as the context may require. See Virginia Code 1-221
  • Planning district commission: means a regional planning agency chartered under the provisions of Chapter 42 (§ Virginia Code 15.2-2201

Any locality may participate in a planning district commission in accordance with Chapter 42 (§ 15.2-4200 et seq.) of this title or a joint local commission in accordance with § 15.2-2219.
