Notwithstanding any contrary provision of a local charter, the fiscal year of every locality and school division shall begin on the first day of July and end on the thirtieth day of June.
Terms Used In Virginia Code 15.2-2500
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- Locality: means a county, city, or town as the context may require. See Virginia Code 1-221
