Virginia Code 18.2-289: Use of machine gun for crime of violence.

Possession or use of a machine gun in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of a crime of violence is hereby declared to be a Class 2 felony.

Under the Virginia Code, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:

Class	Prison	Fine
Class 2 felony	life or at least 20 years	up to $100,000
