Terms Used In Virginia Code 37.2-505

  • Abuse: means any act or failure to act by an employee or other person responsible for the care of an individual in a facility or program operated, licensed, or funded by the Department, excluding those operated by the Department of Corrections, that was performed or was failed to be performed knowingly, recklessly, or intentionally, and that caused or might have caused physical or psychological harm, injury, or death to an individual receiving care or treatment for mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance abuse.   • Board: means the State Board of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. See Virginia Code 37.2-100
  • Community services board: means the public body established pursuant to § Virginia Code 37.2-100
  • Locality: means a county, city, or town as the context may require. See Virginia Code 1-221
  • Substance abuse: means the use of drugs, enumerated in the Virginia Drug Control Act (§ Virginia Code 37.2-100

1. Be responsible for coordinating the community services necessary to accomplish effective preadmission screening and discharge planning for persons referred to the community services board. When preadmission screening reports are required by the court on an emergency basis pursuant to Article 5 (§ 37.2-814 et seq.) of Chapter 8 of Title 32.1 about alcohol and substance abuse services available to minors.

B. The community services board may perform the functions set out in subdivision A 1 in the case of children by referring them to the locality‘s family assessment and planning team and by cooperating with the community policy and management team in the coordination of services for troubled youths and their families. The community services board may involve the family assessment and planning team and the community policy and management team, but it remains responsible for performing the functions set out in subdivisions A 2 and A 3 in the case of children.
