A. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any individual who receives training at a criminal justice training academy established pursuant to Article 5 (§ 15.2-1747 et seq.) of Chapter 17 of Title 15.2 shall not be deemed an employee of the criminal justice training academy. A criminal justice training academy shall have no liability to provide coverage or benefits under this title to any individual receiving training at the academy.

Terms Used In Virginia Code 65.2-106

  • Employee: means :

    1. See Virginia Code 65.2-101

  • Employer: includes (i) any person, the Commonwealth or any political subdivision thereof and any individual, firm, association or corporation, or the receiver or trustee of the same, or the legal representative of a deceased employer, using the service of another for pay and (ii) any volunteer fire company or volunteer emergency medical services agency electing to be included and maintaining coverage as an employer under this title. B. The employer that arranges for an individual to be trained at a criminal justice training academy shall provide coverage and benefits under this title to the individual during the period the individual is receiving training at the academy.
