Terms Used In Washington Code > Chapter 18.108 - Massage therapists
- Animal massage therapist: means an individual with a license to practice massage therapy in this state with additional training in animal therapy. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
- Board: means the Washington state board of massage. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Certified reflexologist: means an individual who is certified under this chapter. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Health carrier: means the same as the definition in RCW 48. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Intraoral massage: means the manipulation or pressure of soft tissue inside the mouth or oral cavity for therapeutic purposes. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Massage business: means the operation of a business where massages are given. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Massage therapist: means an individual licensed under this chapter. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
- person: may be construed to include the United States, this state, or any state or territory, or any public or private corporation or limited liability company, as well as an individual. See Washington Code 1.16.080
- Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
- Reflexology: means a health care service that is limited to applying alternating pressure with thumb and finger techniques to reflexive areas of the lower one-third of the extremities, feet, hands, and outer ears based on reflex maps. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Reflexology business: means the operation of a business where reflexology services are provided. See Washington Code 18.108.010
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- Secretary: means the secretary of health or the secretary's designee. See Washington Code 18.108.010
