- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Court: means the superior court of the state of Washington. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- Department: means the department of social and health services. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- Deposition: An oral statement made before an officer authorized by law to administer oaths. Such statements are often taken to examine potential witnesses, to obtain discovery, or to be used later in trial.
- Donor: The person who makes a gift.
- Employee: means an employee as defined in RCW 49. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Mentally ill person: means any person who, pursuant to the definitions contained in RCW 71. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- Patient: means a person under observation, care, or treatment in a state hospital, or a person found mentally ill by the court, and not discharged from a state hospital, or other facility, to which such person had been ordered hospitalized. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- person: may be construed to include the United States, this state, or any state or territory, or any public or private corporation or limited liability company, as well as an individual. See Washington Code 1.16.080
- Personal property: All property that is not real property.
- Resident: means a resident of the state of Washington. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- Secretary: means the secretary of social and health services. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- State hospital: means any hospital, including a child study and treatment center, operated and maintained by the state of Washington for the care of the mentally ill. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
- Superintendent: means the superintendent of a state hospital. See Washington Code 72.23.010
- Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
- violent act: means any physical assault or attempted physical assault against an employee or patient of a state hospital. See Washington Code 72.23.010
