- Advice and consent: Under the Constitution, presidential nominations for executive and judicial posts take effect only when confirmed by the Senate, and international treaties become effective only when the Senate approves them by a two-thirds vote.
- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- board: means a county board of education. See West Virginia Code 18-1-1
- Consumer control: means circumstances in which individuals with disabilities having decision-making authority. See West Virginia Code 18-10M-4
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Council: means the Statewide Independent Living Council. See West Virginia Code 18-10M-4
- Designated state entity: means the entity designated in the state plan for independent living to receive and administer federal funding as directed by the plan. See West Virginia Code 18-10M-4
- Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- federal act: means the act codified at 29 U. See West Virginia Code 18-10M-4
- Independent living services: means advocacy. See West Virginia Code 18-10M-4
- Individual with a significant disability: means an individual with a severe physical or mental impairment whose ability to function independently in the family or community or whose ability to obtain, maintain or advance in employment is substantially limited and for whom the delivery of independent living services will improve the ability to function, continue functioning, or move toward functioning independently in the family or community or to continue in employment, respectively. See West Virginia Code 18-10M-4
- Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- School: means the students and teachers assembled in one or more buildings, organized as a unit. See West Virginia Code 18-1-1
- State: when applied to a part of the United States and not restricted by the context, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" also include the said district and territories. See West Virginia Code 2-2-10
- State plan: means the state plan for independent living required by the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. See West Virginia Code 18-10M-4
